Physical Features

Height:
5'10''
Weight:
141 lbs. - Lanae isn't just tall, she's also athletically built with lean muscle throughout.
Complexion:
Unnaturally pale and smooth by default with a faint redness around the eyes, her complexion takes on a rosy, somewhat more "natural" appearance after she has fed.
Hair:
Blue-black hair falls nearly to her waist with a slight curl at the ends. She typically wears it loose, topped with a crown of dry, wilted flowers.
Eyes:
Very light hazel normally and hooded; brightens to amber yellow in dim lighting, when hungry, or when feeling strong emotion.
Other Features

Lanae has tattoos on the right side of her forehead extending from hairline to brow, as well as on her forearms and thighs. The markings on her face appear merely tribal, with significance only to her, while the marks on her arms and leg appear to be serpentine in nature.

She wears simple cotton clothes that might have been pretty once but now appear dirty and tattered along the edges. She also carries a wicked looking scythe.

Social Interactions

Relationships and Companions

Lanae does not seem to have any ties to anyone or anything. She does not know where the creature that made her is, and she's of two minds about ever finding them.

Personality

Whoever Lanae was before she became the creature she is now leaked through the cracks in her psyche created during her unmaking. These nights she is a sad, broken thing; hardly even a shadow of her former self and the tragic character of her own cautionary tale.

Since her transformation, Lanae's actions have been dictated largely by her hunger and whatever wild whim crosses the fragmented landscape of her mind. What's more, the terrible reality of her condition has made her bitter and cruel. The end result is capriciousness combined with violent shifts in temperament that pose a danger to herself and others. As far as anyone may be able to tell, she does not make choices based on any moral or ethical code.

Lanae avoids large groups of people and cities, preferring to keep to wild and remote places during moments of lucidity. She does display a capacity for mercy or kindness although it's always on her terms and can be brief. In general, she likes to play games -- typically the mental variety at someone else's expense -- that hearken to a time when philosophical debates and scholastic pursuits were her first loves.

Belief:
Atheism

History

Regardless of what Lanae might say, she tries very hard not to remember her life before she was condemned to an immutable existence of darkness and blood. The memories are painful and she shies away from any stark reminder of everything she has lost. Even so, now and then, she cannot help but recall.

Back then she had another name; the Elvish word for "beautiful spring" in the Kerasokan dialect for the day on which she was born. She grew up in the marshy woodlands of The Serpent Kin within the province of Tviyr. As the child of a shapeshifter and a human, she knew something of both worlds but preferred the inherent freedom of the remote woods to the oppressive bustle of cities and towns.

Like most half-blooded shapeshifters, she struggled to grasp the ability to assume different forms. By the time most full-blooded children in her community acquired their second form, she was still familiarizing herself with her first. Undaunted, she worked tirelessly, committing much of her time and energy to the study and mastery of shapeshifting.

While she was not a prodigious shifter, even as an adult, still she was enthusiastic about the natural world and had some magic of her own. Upon reaching adulthood, she began training to become a Warden; a champion of nature that lived and died to protect it. Other than learning new forms, it was the single greatest achievement of her life to earn the title and respect that came with the lifelong responsibility.

For a time life was, by her own estimation, idyllic. After years of literal blood, sweat and tears, she had found what she believed to be her purpose. Then an unearthly stranger walked into her village one night and laid waste to it, destroying everything in a matter of hours. Whether they stayed to fight or turned to flee for their lives, the villagers fell; from the very young to the very old, most perished. Most.

When next she woke, nothing was as it once was. Everyone was gone. Her connection to nature had been twisted, damaged beyond recognition, and the realization broke her at last. The beautiful spring had faded to winter, the earth wept blood, and she was nothing but a whisper in the darkness.

"I was someone. I was from someplace. Now I am undone. I am nothing. I belong nowhere. I am Lanae of Nowhere."
