Other Features

Without the aid of concealing clothing, it’s apparent at a glance what Sunde is. Black scales cover the entirety of her arms from hand to elbow, as well as her legs from her feet to just above the knee. Her fingers and toes end in thick nails akin to talons. A pair of horns curve upward from her temples, and a thin tail reaches to her ankles. Her wings span around 25 feet, leathery like a bat’s.

Sunde’s usual clothes include a tunic, capelet, and trousers, with slits for her tail and wings. Wooden beads of various colors strung together adorn her neck, wrists, and the end of her tail. She prefers to go without gloves and shoes, but will slip them on if circumstances require.

Her body’s natural weapons are such that Sunde does not see a need to carry man-made ones. Her fighting style is best described as “messy”; the foundation of it was passed down by her parents, but she did not have the opportunity to complete her formal training and essentially figured out the rest her own way. The result is somewhat on the bestial side, perhaps even undisciplined compared to an established martial school -- swift, powerful strikes married to fantastic mobility afforded her by her wings.

Sunde has some skill in hunting, as she often contributed to Shyywood’s food supplies and would help to cull wild beasts around the village.

Social Interactions

Relationships and Companions

Sunde was raised in the remote Tviyran mountain village of Shyywood. The human residents there are sympathetic towards ue’drahc, and would gladly shelter them or other dragonkin if Sunde asked.

Personality

Sunde seemingly has limited emotional capacity, perpetually stone-faced and calm. There is an air of aloofness about her; her facial expressions rarely deviate from the default blank, intense stare. Those who try to engage her in conversation will very quickly find that she either has no patience or no talent for small talk (it’s the latter). She is laconic to a fault, straightforward almost to the point of rudeness. That’s not to say that Sunde is unfeeling; she’s just terrible at expressing what she does feel.

With such a lackluster demeanor, Sunde can give the impression of being dim-witted. She is, however, handily perceptive. She is a keen observer with a good eye for detail, if only out of necessity -- there are many potential enemies to the ue’drahc out there, after all, and it wouldn’t do to stumble into trust blindly. Sunde is slow to warm to others for this reason, even moreso if they’re anything but human, dragon, or another ue’drahc.

Sunde is not particularly strong-willed. When judging if a decision is morally sound, she weighs it against whether the people she cares about would approve or be disappointed. It’s lucky that her caretakers were kind people, and instilled in her a proper sense of right and wrong. But if Sunde were to fall in with a more morally gray bunch, in time their influence would alter her outlook accordingly.

History

Sunde was born to two ue’drahc -- Ranrusa and Azdanim -- who spent their days wandering the continent, questing for knowledge to bring back to their draconic kin. The two were accompanied by a small band of warriors and scholars, friends of the ue’drahc who wholeheartedly supported their cause. Thus did young Sunde spend her childhood on the road under the sun and stars, loved and protected by a dozen aunts and uncles.

When Sunde was 12, one of her parents’ acquaintances betrayed them to villains. Their party was ambushed, her father captured, and her mother made plans to lead the rest of their band on a rescue mission. As this journey was one too dangerous for a child, Ranrusa left Sunde in the care of a former traveling companion, James Barrow, who had retired to the village of Shyywood in the Tviyran mountains. The location was known to few and visited by even fewer; Sunde would be safe.

The rescue party did not return.

Barrow and his family did their best, but they had little idea how to raise an ue’drahc. As Sunde came into adulthood, there were attempts to gather allies for her so that she might one day undergo the same odyssey her parents had, but Sunde’s languid, distant manner made it difficult to sway hearts and minds to the cause. Worse, there was always the danger that word of her presence would reach the wrong ears. Eventually, the Barrow family ceased their efforts and settled for looking after Sunde as if she was no more than a scaly, winged granddaughter.

After James Barrow’s death, his children took over his mantle of protector, as did their children in turn. Sunde was content with her simple, peaceful lot at first. But as the decades came and went, and the friends she’d played with as children grew old and frail -- again, and again, and again -- she grew ever more aware of how fleeting human lives really were. A painful longing for her own kin took root in her heart.

At last, having basked in the loyalty and love of Shyywood for so many generations, Sunde was too restless to stay. She left the village and drifted south, mainly hoping to find others like her, but also perhaps to experience the world as her parents once did.

Sunde hardly knows what it means to be ue’drahc, but if she can meet another, or perhaps discover where her dragon ancestors have hidden themselves, she will find the answer.
