152 lbs. A little broad through the shoulders with defined musculature throughout arms, torso and legs.

Fair with ruddy undertones in the face and the odd bit of scarring here and there.

Other Features

Jourin's distinguishing features are primarily on her face: a tattoo like a brand in the center of her forehead comprised of three inverted teardrops in dark red ink; the ragged remnants of an old burn wound covering nearly the entirety of her right cheek; and a septum piercing. She also speaks with a soft foreign accent (see: Romanian).

Typical gear includes studded or reinforced leather armor, a buckler, a broadsword, a parrying dagger, a hide cloak, and a backpack full of camping necessities. She also carries a small leather pouch which contains bone charms that seem to have significance only to her.

Social Interactions

Relationships and Companions

Jourin was formerly associated with pirates and slave traders, albeit from the position of subservience. Since leaving them, she has been a sell-sword with no allegiance to anyone or any group in particular.

Personality

As far as most people are concerned, Jourin appears to be little more than a stone slab carved into human likeness rendered flesh. Outwardly stoic and largely emotionless except for a perpetually stern expression, she seems to personify the strong and silent type unless she's actively projecting menace.

Appearances in this case are not wholly deceiving. Jourin's hard exterior is a gauge of her hard life and doubles as a mirror for how staunchly she adheres to her beliefs. More generous folk would say she's merely superstitious; detractors would call her a zealot. Either way, the fact remains that the devotion to her faith puts her firmly in morally gray waters more often than not, and Jourin seems not to mind.

In general, Jourin is neutral; what happens, happens, and you can either fight the inevitable or let it make you stronger. She'll lie, cheat and steal as needed and has committed murder when she felt she had to. She does express loyalty and affection to those who earn her regard. She is also extremely superstitious.

History

Jourin was born on an island with no name off the south-western coast of Tviyr. Like all small villages no-one has ever heard of, the community she grew up in was poor, subsisting on what could be fished from the sea and trading the rest to the occasional passing ship. Their relative estrangement from the mainland allowed their culture to develop in strange and unorthodox ways that outsiders found disquieting.

Pirates took advantage of the village's out-of-the-way location, making landfall when Jourin was but ten. They found strangely little resistance, and even less to pillage. Not content to disembark empty handed, they took their pound of flesh in literal terms and set sail with a third of the island's occupants -- a young Jourin included.

Over the course of the next ten years, Jourin lived at the mercy of those she was required to serve. She was sold on the black market to a wealthy landowner on the mainland after nearly two years at sea and was subjected to yet more backbreaking manual labor. Jourin was sixteen before the other slaves worked up the courage to free themselves. She was but one of many whose hands were bloodied after putting their master and his overseers to the sword.

Jourin made use of her newly-acquired freedom. Rather than return to the dismal rock she once called home, she took up with a roving band of mercenaries. Although she initially did no more than cook their meals and tend their horses, a few warmed to her sufficiently to put a sword in her hand and teach her how to use it effectively. It wasn't too long before she became an official member of their group.

For the last six months Jourin has been having a recurring dream that points her towards Fellsgard and fills her with an uneasy restlessness. After so long on the road, she has broken from her companions and made her way to the human capitol, certain that these dreams are a vision of a destiny as yet unfulfilled. Whether the path leads to fortune or ruin doesn't matter; all she knows is that she must walk it or be damned.
