Relationships and Companions

The most reliable friend Thamnis has ever had is a fellow Korcai named Korswayn, one of the first "Children" of Victoria who mentored him in how to survive unlife.

Personality

Generally, Thamnis presents himself as a contemplative, mysterious individual who often keeps a distance...as best as he can when one is a Korcai. Of course, for those who love to ingratiate themselves with the Korcai, this serves as a natural source of irritation. Still, blood willingly given is blood willingly given, that is something that he cannot deny. However, when push comes to shove, the Korcai is still the man he grew into after going into exile. He is compassionate, eager to help those who need it the most and is willing to go the mile for a good cause. As such, Thamnis is an individual who values knowledge deeply, believing that it can pave the way for the future. He is no fool however; having grown up during Bhelest's reign, the Korcai knows all too well of its abuses, and as such is wary of those who flagrantly abuse it. Notably, Thamnis is very cautious about when he feeds, taking care to ensure that it remains as impassionate as possible so as to mitigate creating another Korcai. Yet, in contrast to this demeanour, the Korcai does have a sense of humour, knowing that mirth is important in keeping alive his devotion to Ristgeir and Ny'tha as well as maintaining a connection to mortalkind.

As such, nobody is perfect, and for Thamnis, that is naturally the case. His long existence has made him a wary individual and is rather hesitant to form bonds with others. Whilst it is mostly out of having endured a lot of loss in both his mortal life and early undeath, there's also the fear that he is one poor feeding away from accidentally murdering someone for their precious life's blood for his first days of being Korcai were marred with that loss of self-control and the price it forced him to pay. Furthermore, Thamnis' negative traits from his early youth are still there; he is capable of holding a grudge against those who wrong him greatly. The Korcai is also a rather secretive individual; a trait formed from the paranoia of his early youth and further refined by the shame of his early undead existence. This also drives him to be somewhat penitent in his approach to life, seeking to atone for what he sees as his greatest sin.

After that, Thamnis included Ristgir into his choice of Eidolons. After his becoming, he would become devoted to both, seeking penance in the Eidolon of Light and comfort in the Eidolon of Night

History

Born when Bhelest reigned supreme and the Elves had yet to be parted in twain, Thamnis Guisarrel was born to the Mariseh, a secret priestess of Ny'tha and an unknown Elven traveller. From the moment he was born, the former Half-Blood's life was tumultuous; at the time, blamed by the population of their home city for the victories of Bhelest, Ny'tha's cult had been forced underground, with the added impetus from forbidding the worship of the Eidolons. At this time, there were whispers of a strange plague coming from the directionof Elair Mansion further away. As a result, much of Thamnis' life was shaped by secrets, lest his family and friends be executed for their defiance. Whilst it was, by all accounts, a difficult early life, he had little doubt that he was loved, and that his mother did her best to give him a happy childhood as much as could be given under the shadow of persecution. However, 10 years into his life, Ny'tha's faithful would be betrayed and given over to the authorities for what was seen as their rightful punishment; Thamnis was only 10 years old at this time, and would have joined the rest of Eidolon of Night's followers at the gallows were it not for his mother begging for his life. Her pleas would be answered, but for a price; the boy would be branded with a mockery of the crescent moon and made to watch as his mother and her congregation were hanged over the sea, their dying gasps signalling to the gulls and the crows that they were to have quite the feast that day.

Branded and condemned to life as an outcast, the former Half-breed had no choice but to turn to other means of survival. None of the guilds wanted to take him as an apprentice, for fear of associating with someone with ties to the cult of Ny'tha. None...save for the local Thieves' Guild known as the Hand of Swift Shadow, would take pity on Thamnis. So it was that he would start off as a pickpocket, where his status as a Pariah actually made him invisible as the people of the city pretended that he didn't exist...almost stupidly so. Throughout his tenure, he would learn other, more advanced tricks of the trade. Upon his 16th year of life, the Hand of Swift Shadow would involve themselves with a cell of rebels against the puppet government placed by Bhelest; as a result, the Half-Elf would prove himself a worthy courier and purveyor of stolen goods. It would be at this point where he would begin to learn the arts of war from the rebels...and the arts of magic from the stolen tomes that had, over a human lifetime ago, been distributed by the Great Wizard himself. It would eventually culminate in Thamnis throwing his hand in with the rebels at the age of 21; with the memories of mother's execution still crystal clear, the desire for vengeance against the government that condemned her and all of their friends to death blazed within his heart the more he interacted with the rebels. However, as it seems to be case with all of the things in the Half-Breed's life, the rebellion would fail in a night of flame and retribution. The wounded Thamnis would be sent hurtling into the sea, completely unconscious from burning himself out casting spells.

Had fate gone another way, Thamnis would have either succumbed to his wounds, the elements or the wildlife; yet it seems the cosmos had other plans entirely for him. Whilst out on a hunting trip, a woman happened upon his unconscious body, which had finally washed up upon the shores. Spurred by compassion, she dragged him back to her homestead on the Baslehr Ridge's plains where she would spend the next 6 months nursing Thamnis back to health. Even with the bounty out on his head, she still hid him. Eventually, once he was lucid again, Thamnis would learn of who his saviour was; her name was Varanisa, and she was of a similar heritage to the man she saved...albeit her mother was the Elf and her father was the Human. As such, the former Rebel would remain at the homestead for the next six years. At first, it was to lay low, for they were in the middle of nowhere where there were no roads. However, within the last of those two years, it became more...personal as the two Half-Elves finally revealed their love for one another.

Thus it would come to pass that Thamnis and Varanisa would settle down and be married in a secret ceremony in the eyes of the Eidolons. For the first time in his life, he felt truly happy, and it would only get better within 20 years when they had their first child...a boy named Jaego; two years later, they would have a daughter, whom Varanisa would name Mariseh...after Thamnis' mother. As far as they were concerned, life was good in their litte slice of paradise, far away from the concerns of the world. However, one day, whilst Varanisa took the children to visit her relatives that resided in a coastal fishing village on Baslehr Ridge's southern coastline, the world would come crashing on Thamnis. One night, whilst returnning from tending to a crop of mushrooms, the Half-Elf would happen across a stranger lying unconscious on the planes. Spurred by compassion, Thamnis would try to render aid to the stranger...it would be the last mistake as a living man he would make. Immediately, he noticed the stranger's pallor and elongated canines...which immmediately brought to mind the description he had heard of those afflicted by the new plague from the East. Yet, before he could act upon this recollection, the stranger's snapped open, revealing a pair of luminescent red eyes. With a flash of pearlescent fangs, Thamnis would feel a sharp pain in his neck as creature tore into him. Spurred by a mixture of fear and outrage, the Half-Elf would draw upon his spells and conjure a dazzling pillar of starlight to scour his foe away.

Once there was nothing but ash left, Thamnis raced back into the homestead to tend to his wound...but his magic couldn't heal it, and it would not bleeding naturally. Within an hour, that was when the first symptoms began to manifest, and the Half-Breed realised that he too now carried this new plague. Desperately, he sent a pidgeon messenger, in an attempt to warn his family to stay away; it was merely a night before they were due to begin the journey that saw them return to the homestead. Sadly, that pidgeon would be intercepted by a hungry falcon as Thamnis was left to writhe in agony as his body slowly died for 24 hours, until he breathed his last ragged breath. Yet death would be denied him that day; when he next opened his eyes, gone were the warm brown orbs he had been born with; in their place were the golden eyes of a predator. His flesh was was a pale as the moon and marble-like in its texture. Looking around, the world was much sharper and more vivid than he had recalled....but most striking of all was the hunger he felt. Remembering how the stranger had tore into his neck, Thamnis realised that his hunger was for something far more horrific. As a result of this revelation, he locked himself in the family's cellar where he had hoped that he'd succumb to the starvation that he had been due; instead, he had lit a powder keg that would cost him very dearly. When he next awoke, it would be in his house's main hall, drenched in blood and surrounded by the bodies of his wife and children.

Of course, the Korcai was horrified at what he had done...but what disturbed him most was that he could not remember any of it whatsoever. Riddled with guilt and self-hatred at what he had done, Thamnis buried his family and then fled into the wilds. During the early days of his exile, he would encounter another being like him...however, unlike the deranged., starving creature that turned him into, the one before him was restrained and completely sane. He introduced himself as Korswayn, one of the first of Victora's children, and he would pass on the lore of the nascent Korcai race; of how they were born of Bhelest's betrayal of Victoria and how to survive as one of them. Naturally, Thamnis took these lessons onboard, determined to not lose himself to the hunger again once more. After that, the young Korcai would take to the roads for a wandering journey that would last for centuries; he would see the fall of Bhelest's empire, one of the few things that actually seemed to make him happy. Of course, he took care to keep himself distant from mortals; speaking with them only when necessary and taking his fill of blood from bandits and other ne'erdowells. In due time however, loneliness would eventually drive him to seek the companionship of others...most baffling was the peculiar fetish many mortals developed for his undead kind. To this day, Thamnis wanders Khy'eras as a scholar and a sellsword, offering his services to those with the right cause, with coin being mostly secondary...mostly, old habits die hard after all.

Weapons

Weapon-wise, the Korcai carries a staff and falcata, with two curved daggers concealed within his sleeves. Of course, like any of his kind, he maintains a set of clawed fingers as a weapon of last resort.

Armor

In terms of armour, Thamnis wears a silk gambeson woven with metal scales; similar types cover his arms and legs.

Clothing and Accessories

Generally, Thamnis wears a mixture of wizard's robesand traveller's gear, to represent the unlife he leads. However, the only thing that is constant is the goldenn wedding ring he still wears upon his right hand. He also maintains a full-body leather cloak, with thick arm-length gloves and thigh-length boots for when he needs to travel in the day...it is pretty damn uncomfortable, especially in the summer.

Skills

Mundane
As a result of his life spent amongst dregs of a society that has not survived to the modern day, Thamnis is well-versed in the art of sword and knifeplay. A portion of it would be self-taught, but it would be further refined when he threw his lot in with a small rebellion against the local government. Alongside this, he is well-versed in lockpicking and pickpocketing, though he hasn't had to resort to the latter in a very long time due to his Korcai nature.

Korcai abilities
As an expression of the changes wrought upon his form by the Korcai virion, Thamnis is capable of assuming a Mist Form and is blessed with enhanced vigour.

Spellbook

Caelimancy
When it comes to the magic of the Cosmos, Thamnis is well-versed. He can conjure blasts of starlight from the heavens (less collateral damage that way). Whilst he can conjure miniature stars to light the way, he chooses not to most of the time; since the sun is a star, he does not wish to risk the possibility of burning himself with something he himself conjured. As such, the navigational abilities of the art serve him well, given his nocturnal existence.

Defensive Spells
A must for any Wizard, Thamnis knows how to deflect spells and to create wards against incorporeal undead.

Ventimancy
An adept in the magic of the air, the Korcai knows how to tap into this art well; he has a nuanced grasp of manipulating the air, creating whirlwind shields that blow arrows aside and can blow enemies to the ground. He can also conjure lightning bolts to attack his foes.

Mental
A useful set of abilities, Thamnis' aptitude extends to telekinesis and telepathy.

Shadow
Having lost his ability to use Luminosity and Restorative magics when he succumbed to the Korcai pestilence, Thamnis set his sights upon Shadow Magic; so far, his skills are confined to Shadow Manipulation and Curses that Influence luck and sensoral abilities.</p>
