Physical Features

Height:
An unimposing height of 5'6", Val is fairly average for a human.
Weight:
An athletic build, one that can climb over locked gates for all the shenanigans a night should bring, and yet not particularly muscled. She's the dextrous sort who spends more time practicing instruments than swinging swords.
Complexion:
A dark shade somewhere south of tanned, it's pretty obvious Val doesn't secretly hail from Domrhask.
Hair:
An untameable mess of wavy black hair that extends to mid-back. Usually kept bound in a low ponytail to keep it from becoming truly unruly.
Eyes:
Green, and never ever ever any other colour. Such reports are slanderous lies. That crackle of black, an iris of white? Clearly, all that drinking is causing hallucinations. Pity how many people can't seem to manage their own limits these days.
Other Features

Vallenia doesn't have an "other" form. Why would anyone suggest that? "Half Filament L"? Sounds like something the shop could help with, not her. Yep, there's nothing else to Val, although she respects everyone trying to get a closer look. Just usual, typical, perfectly preened Val, and certainly no fissures of black lightning that arc and tear across! No stillness to the air nor shift of shadows that yearn to be more than mere silhouette - no ruinous black clouds of living destruction, her tremulous hold of normalcy at once collapsing and reforming as if a living mirage!

Such would be silly talk, especially in a place like Fellsgard. It must just be the light catching her oddly. Everyone knows magic isn't real.

====
Magic:
While she's always felt an ebb and flow around others - a kind of magnetic charge that seems stronger or weaker with each individual - Vallenia avoids muddling with it. There's the little voice in the back of her head telling her that she should, that she could take all of it, but she hasn't listened to that obnoxious noise since the Mr. Tweeters incident.

Still, she knows that she can change the flow of this energy. She knows that she has to take from it, from time to time, falling ill when long enough without for reasons she has never tried to understand. She also knows to be disciplined, that the smallest amounts stolen will go unmissed, and however much more the voice pleads to take, the exhilarating rush is temporary and fleeting. She always winds up sick when she listens to that voice, bedstricken for weeks with a malady no alchemist can ever identify, much less heal.

Whether she knows it or not, Vallenia walks a razor's edge manipulating the mana all around her, a horribly untrained hedge who's been treating her own broken essence for as long as she's been able to deny there's an entire half of her literally made of the stuff.

She'd much rather have the magic to wish it all away and just be human.

Social Interactions

Relationships and Companions

Fennel Bellamy - Older brother who's taken after the family business. Lovingly referred to by a nickname inspired from a wonderful and woefully embarrassing story Val loves to tell at every opportunity, only it suspiciously changes between each telling.

Bettany Bellamy - Retired and recently infirmed mother, who still dotes on her children and fusses with their clothing despite her faltering vision. Comes from a long line of Bellamys, all inventors and tinkerers who've owned and operated Bellamy's Blueprints for generations.

Donovan Bellamy - Retired father, moved to Fellsgard from a rural farming village and instantly fell in love with the locomotives and Bettany. Approaches everything with a straightforward simplicity and holds effort in highest esteem, having never had a head for inventing, and instead picking up all the auxiliary tasks to keep the shop moving.

Every barkeep in Fellsgard and then some - There are those who have banned Val outright for some tomfoolery or another, and those that welcome the rowdy coin. Some even let her pay her tab via singing and storytelling. She's yet to find one that will take her on full-time, however.

Personality

Lively, raucous, and incorrigible, Vallenia is a bard through and through. She's more concerned with what would make for the best story rather than frivolous trivialities such as "strictly legal" or "physically possible," and as such is constantly swept up in some half-brained scheme or another. The woman reeks of trouble, and when the glint of mischief sneaks into her eye, the best course of action is to either run, or settle in with a drink and enjoy the show.

It's easy to mistake her for a sophisticant. She dresses in nice suits and vests with a tendency to put on airs, and her appearance is generally sharp and put-together, but her appreciation for the finer things is perpetually underpinned by her hunt for amusement. She's an overly gregarious sort who won't abide silence, as the worst torture she can imagine is being alone. And so she seeks out distractions, or rather makes them herself - there isn't a terrible flirt she won't utter, a stupid song she won't sing, and a wily speck of trouble she won't inexplicably wind up in, all in the name of evading conscious introspection.

After all, the gal is a living party, and why shouldn't she be? There are people starving without a copper to their name, and they manage to be perfectly happy. Her mother and father raised a happy family. Her brother's happy with the booming family business. And the world - it's constantly bringing the happiest stories and drinks to every tavern she can possibly think to frequent, adding to her repertoire to repeat at many more pubs yet. Val has every care and comfort in life accounted for, and no reason not to be happy.

... So why isn't she?

History

Vallenia doesn't remember much of her childhood. She remembers... a green-eyed lady, and the games they'd play. An enormous gurgling cauldron, the acrid smell of chopped onions, and the forest of people she'd squeeze through - only while everyone else had their eyes on the cauldron, she was rifling through pockets, exactly how the lady showed her. She always found the best trinkets, she'd be praised. A nimble natural. They could always count on Val to win the scavenger hunt.

She also remembers... waiting until dark somewhere where the mountains kissed the sky, then pretending to be lost in a crowded marketplace. She was always so believable, the green-eyed lady would say. A born actor. And then at night, after Mark had taken her home and put her to bed - even though it was usually a woman, and it was weird they had the same name every time - she'd slip out the window and "find" the green-eyed lady, and show her all the lovely new things they could play with.

It stopped being fun in Fellsgard. Turned out these games were pretty shite when she was crying for real. The metal men tried to console her well enough, but they eventually had to take her to a building with too many other kids, and Val never saw the green-eyed lady again.

There was just the Bellamys, a few sleepless weeks later. Dad, who was always pacing and reorganizing the back room; Mom, who was fighting a cold war against Dad and always scattering the cogs and gears he spent so much time sorting; and Fennel, who used to eruditely pretend that he knew what any of the metal-toothed contraptions were for. Altogether, they lived in the blue-bricked house on the corner with the windows that could breath fire and smoke - although apparently the windows weren't normally supposed to do that.

It was rough in the beginning. Val was always a bit of a black sheep, at first possessed with the idea that she had just gotten the wrong Mark and if she found the right one, the green-eyed lady would be at the meeting place all along. Then there was the fight with Fennel, when she was determined to swim and see the world if she couldn't take the skyships. Eventually... there was the Bellamy Brigade, when at least both of the idiots ran off to a storybook life of high seas and swashbuckling, only for the Cap'n to find the stowaways before the ship even left harbour. Val's ear still hurts from the talking-to Mom gave them.

The years passed by and her second-floor room filled with all the books and pictures of places she would never visit, and Vallenia somehow stopped wanting to leave. She still felt the pull of a world much larger than Fellsgard, of course, but now she was content with bringing the world to her, and memorizing all the stories of grand adventures and songs of heroes passed that any traveller could spare. Her parents wished her in the workshop instead, still determined to make a Bellamy of her yet, but she always found her calling in the rowdy taverns past sundown.

And promptly being kicked out of them at sun up.

And losing all her hard-earned money on dice games and drinking contests.

And loudly hitting on the wrong people at the marketplace and having to feign a disguise to ever enjoy a fresh apple again.

And annoying her brother with every variety of prank imaginable.

And anything else that keeps her adrift on the wind, still dodging the responsibilities of the family business, and instead setting her sights on Nyshasa Academy. If she can stop mysteriously misplacing it all, she might just scrape up enough coin yet to cover tuition for their music program and become something of a legitimate bard.

Then, maybe a real tavern will ask her to play, instead of pointing out that she's waking up the neighbours and the guards are on their way.
