Image Aryn watched the gates of the city with some intensity. She had been traveling a week to get to this point. She had tried to catch a ride in a couple of wagons. But she had three strikes against her. The first was she was a shapechanger and preferred to sleep in her animal form. Second, she was a thief and stole to survive. The worst was she was a new mage and magic was not always welcome.

She had heard the stories about shapeshifters killing babies and trying to take their place. She had also heard the stories about shapechangers being thieves and stealing things, that one was true in her case.

Right now she was sitting looking at the traffic in and out of the city and watching how things operated. Two-legged guards like to ask questions that Aryn did not feel like answering. They charged taxes and told you what you could and could not do. So being a cat fit her mood.

As she rested with her tail gently flicking. She enjoyed the sunshine and watched the guards' routine.

Looking toward the city she could see the districts, smell the smells on the breeze, and hear just a little bit of the noise. What keeps catching her eyes is the three lighthouses. The sunlight hit the Cupolas and lantern rooms making them look like they were on glowing. In her eyes, they appeared to look like candles on a cake drawing her eyes to them. They made her feel excited as the city was a new present for her to unwrap and enjoy. It was a place of excitement and adventure.

Her tail flicked at the sound of a dog barking rose from the city. Now was as good of a time as any to work her way through the gates and past the guards.

Not many people pay attention to a lone cat. Aryn liked it that way. She worked her way down then got close to the wall. She acted like she was hunting something. laying low and ear forward. She pounced then jumped like something bit her. She fluffed her tail full and ran through the gate. A few people laughed.

Inside she went to check out one of the lighthouses. It was taller than she had originally realized. Now she was in awe that people could make something that large. Some day she would climb it and stare out into the sea.
