Personality
Originally a soldier by trade, he possesses pragmatism and pessimism in equal measure. Of course, that's not to say he was much of a positive thinker before that. Locke is mostly concerned with surviving and having a better lifestyle than the one he has experienced up until this point. He is occasionally prone to bouts of recklessness or 'tactical-aggression' as he prefers to call it.
His demeanor tends to range from sarcastic to downright hostile. It shouldn't come as a surprise that he is more than happy to throw the disdain back at any nobles who show him the same. While Locke is by no means a friendly individual, those who treat him with respect are likely to get that in return. He is acting more out of necessity than anything else. The mercenary does have a bit of soft-spot for other soldiers who served at his side.
The combination of his irreverence and competency has resulted in Locke being oddly charismatic. There are those that have and will readily follow him for reasons that are beyond his understanding.

History
"Taking up the sword is the last act of a desperate man."
That's what my father said right before he told me right before he sent me to join the guard. Apparently, his father told him the same thing too. Pretty odd considering they were both goddamned soldiers. Can't say the man was too smart but then I guess that just makes me another idiot in a long bloody line of idiots. The old man did teach me a few things before he sent me off to go die in some shithole.
I survived, the Gods only know how. Decided that dying for someone else wasn't all that sensible. Now I shed blood for my own purpose and found a few other idiots of the same mind. Can't say I'm like to live any longer than another man but at least now when I die, I know it was my own damned fault.
