Personality

Nicodemus is a fellow that redefines the term "self-confidence". In his own mind, nothing is unachievable, unattainable and he himself is the best thing since the invention of the wheel. Perhaps even before that. The world is his personal playground, a stage for his amusement and nothing and nobody can convince him otherwise, making him infuriatingly difficult to slight.

With this boundless confidence however, comes an immense void. There is always something missing in his life, and he is forever on the chase for it. He cannot stand stillness and silence, always craving thrills, drama and amusement. The Kerasoka frequently meddles, stirs the pot and stalks others, with little consideration for their feelings or consequences.

All of that combined, Nicodemus leaves an impression wherever he goes. To some, he is a charming, larger-than-life and eccentric fellow. While to others he is that infuriating rich bastard that just wont go away. Whatever the case may be, Nicodemus enjoys both positive and negative attention. Former more than the latter, in fact.

Lastly, for all the theatrics he displays, at the end of the day he is a dangerous fellow. Fun is fun as long as he feels secure. Once any thing or person he actually cares about(a rarity in itself) is endangered, Nicodemus is quick to drop the eccentric playboy mask and extinguish the threat with efficiency of a heartless chess player.

Religion

Belief:
Atheism
History

Nicodemus has been around for centuries, long enough to see rulers, civilizations and so-called gods rise and fall. He didn't subscribe much to religion to begin with, seeing structure that forms around it just as another facet of politics and manipulation. He, considering himself an alpha predator, certainly wouldn't allow others to dictate his lifestyle.

Background

Age:
336
Origin:
Somewhere in Khy'eras
Residence:
Everywhere, sometimes Ninraih
History

Centuries ago Nicodemus was a young, talented elf. A rising star in the magical world, even if he was never destined for actual fame. Instead, his fate brought him to work for his homeland from the shadows, infiltrating enemy ranks to spy on or eliminate whatever threat required it. Not a bad existence in his own mind - it provided all the thrills he could ever want. Granted, it came at a pesky cost of freedom, something that he planned to rectify eventually. Patiently and strategically.

But even he couldn't predict the turn his life would take. The division among elves grew as Bhelest loomed. Nicodemus and his fellow spies plotted another underhanded strike against the mad mage's forces when an invisible wave swept over the land, stripping every elf of their powers. It was a turn of the war that decimated their sneaky little division. Once formidable, sometimes literally invisible, Kerasoka assassins began dropping in swathes. A tough lesson to learn, to not rely solely on one's magic. The handful that survived the initial decimation learned that one well, presuming madness hadn't taken their minds.

In the end, the higher-ups decided to scrap the dwindling division entirely, Kerasoka operatives included. This gruesome task fell upon the assassins themselves, each turned upon another to save the military's precious resources.

Nicodemus never quite fell for the ruse, though he was more than happy to kill former comrades that had now been labeled traitors. For the thrill's sake, of course. But the truth revealed itself soon enough, when the young elf found out he himself had become a supposed traitor. Well, if a traitor is what they wanted, a traitor is what they'd get. Nicodemus played along, eliminating former colleagues and faking deaths of the few he actually kind of liked. All while pretending to be oblivious of the truth.

One day, his superiors suddenly all succumbed to a particularly nasty poison, an act for which their innocent cook lost his head. In the panicked shuffle and reforming of the chain of command, nobody noticed that one little Nicodemus went missing, empty vial of poison in tow. Before anyone could notice, the elven side suffered a series of horrific defeats, ones that historians to this day swear only happened because there had to have been a mole in the ranks.

Nicodemus, after collecting his handsome reward for spewing Kerasokan strategies to Bhelest's forces, went off in his own direction. True, they offered a promise of cure for further cooperation but Nicodemus has learned his lesson when it comes to carrots, sticks and authority. He had a leash on once, and didn't fancy wearing it again. So off he went, dealing with the newborn insanity his lack of magic brought on and chasing a cure for it. One that he would never, ever catch, though he tried. Oh he tried. The efforts eventually devolved into unethical experiments on his elvenkin, and a whole bunch of murder just for kicks and/or frustration. An entire century went by before Nicodemus managed to calm down and come to relative peace with his non-magical existence.

His obsession temporarily shelved, though not forgotten, the Kerasoka reintegrated himself back into proper society as reinvented Nicodemus Arves, the mysterious, eccentric magnet for adventure and debauchery.

Weapons

Though he would boldly say that he can make anything a weapon, the elf does usually bear a fancy falchion on one hip, as well as a number of sharp knives hidden on his person.

Armor

Nicodemus prefers to have full range of motion, which is why he always goes for very light armor - studded leather at most.

Clothing and Accessories

Rich is the most defining feature of his attire, with the rest varying from day to day. Most times, he dresses in sleek silk and dark colors, a little nod to his past, but he is also not above trying whatever trend runs wherever he finds himself.

Skills

Martial arts, swordplay, knowledge of magic, history, and poisons to some degree.
