Re: Written in the Scars
"I fear I may have to return to see you, doctor." He said, sadly. "Not that that is a bad thing, of course!" He added quickly, not wanting to appear rude. "You have been very understanding, and so helpful. If I had the coin to donate to the Healer's Hall, I would. Maybe in the future. But I simply can't bear the thought of the people I live with seeing ... what you saw."" He didn't even want to say the words.
Getting up and standing tall, he considered the doctor's final question. He did not need to be a Mind Mage to know what the doctor must be meaning when he asked what he did, for who wouldn't see such a thing and be concerned? Any decent person would. And the doctor seemed nothing if not perfectly decent. He scratched his temple.
No, he couldn't do it. Just the thought of the master and the dreadful switch were enough to make him feel uneasy. For him to say it aloud was unthinkable. He gave a forced smile. "No, thank you, Doctor." He said, politely. "But you are most kind to have asked. Again thank you for all you have done, I am very grateful." He turned to leave, then looked back. "I'm sure Professor LaNore will be very pleased to hear how well you have treated me today. Goodbye, Doctor Sabathe."
As he left the building, the young mage gave Elvera a smile as he passed her desk. "Good day, Miss." He was polite, but wanted to hurry back to the Hall as quickly as possible. He had no idea what she must be thinking after his little 'outburst' of magic! He needed to make sure something like that never happened again.
