Flowing through the Slyscera Mountains and Tviyr's lands are dual, neighboring segments of the Ordinuad River. The river's division starts on the northeast side of the mountain and rejoins itself on the southwest side. From either end, The Serpent Kin feels like the Ordinuad River, but as adventurers tread inward, the water changes. Travelers who take this aqueous path find it difficult to navigate, because it becomes almost sluggish. Here the water is darker in color and the land in between the rivers is prone to flooding two to three feet high.
Though folk of scientific character allege that The Serpent Kin's alteration is due to minerals, rain, and snow melt from the mountains, other denizens have their own stories and opinions. A simple version is that eras ago, a gathering of massive snakes or snake-like people resided in the area. A more common tale is of an orphaned sister and brother who were cunning in personality, but also lied to trick adults into giving them coin, food, and whatever else they fancied.
When Bhelest's army was on the rise, a commander of his questioned the siblings for the quickest route to Fellsgard. In exchange for gold, they gave him detailed directions that were entirely made up. The man became lost in The Serpent Kin for days with his troop, missing the final battle that killed Bhelest. When the commander finally found his way, he sought out the children, kidnapped them, and took them to The Serpent Kin. In the middle of the rivers, the commander tied them to trees and left them to starve or to be eaten by wild beasts. Those who claim this tale as truth state it is the lingering tears of the brother and sister.
